The BlackChook Shiraz is sourced from the premium grape growing regions of McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek in South Australia. McLaren Vale has an unrivalled reputation in Australia and indeed the world, for growing Shiraz which is full-flavoured, ripe and balanced. With excellent fruit and length, McLaren Vale Shiraz also has a terrific ability to age. Situated approximately 40kmto the south of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, McLaren Vale has a Mediterranean-type climate. With winter dominant rain fall, warm, dry summers that are tempered by the proximity to the Gulf St. Vincent and low humidity, McLaren Vale has one of the most consistent climates in which to grow premium wine grapes. Located on the floodplains of the Angas and Bremer Rivers about 70km south of Adelaide, Langhorne Creek is one of the older wine growing regions in Australia with the first vines planted in the 1850’s.Traditionally, Langhorne Creek is a red growing area, and characteristically produces Shiraz that is spicy, flavoursome and elegant. Recent years have seen white varieties becoming more established in the region. The Viognier in The BlackChook is sourced from both Langhorne Creek and McLaren Vale. Co-fermenting small amounts of Viognier skins with Shiraz intensifies the deep rich colour and velvety mouthfeel of the wine. And what is a chook? It’s Australian for chicken!
Since first vintage in 2003, Black Chook Shiraz has scored an uninterrupted run of 90+ points internationally recognised reviews and enjoys great success in Australia, Canada and USA
A seductive nose of bright red berry and mulberry fruits with hints of blueberry, black pepper and oak spice. The palate is generous, full of rich black fruits, vanilla, anise and sweet spice. A long lingering finish of delightfully soft Shiraz but not without the punch
