Banfi is a family-owned vineyard estate and winery located in the Brunello region of Tuscany. This award-winning estate was founded on the philosophy of blending tradition with innovation, and is recognized as a pioneer in elevating the standards of Italian winemaking.
The present day Banfi estate was founded in 1978 by the Italian-American brothers, John and Harry Mariani, occupying a medieval Tuscan castle, historically known as “Poggio alle Mura” or “Walled Hilltop”. The origions of the castle, which overlooks the stunning natural Tuscan landscape, date back as far as the ancient Etruscans - circa 800 AD. From the 13th century the estate remained in the family of an eminant Tuscan noblemen for nearly 700 years, before falling into a state of disrepair following the war. In the 20th century the Mariani family restored the castle to its origioanl splendour and renamed it Castello Banfi.
