Louis Roederer is a producer of Champagne based in Reims, France. Still family owned, it has long been regarded as one of the leading ‘Grande Marque’ Champagne houses. Unlike its counterparts, Roederer is able to produce more than two thirds of its grape requirements, whereas other Champagne houses have to source large proportions of their raw materials from contracted growers. The Roederer Group includes a number of brand holdings globally, most notably a number of high-profile estates in Bordeaux, Provence, Portugal, California as well as Champagne Deutz. They are also responsible for the super-luxury Champagne brand Cristal.
A family-owned Champagne house initially founded in 1776 as Dubois Père & Fils. Louis Roederer inherited the company from his uncle in 1833, renamed it eponymously, and set out to target markets abroad. Louis Roederer Champagne has a tremendous reputation for quality. Since 1979 it has been run by Jean-Claude Rouzard. 80% of the firm's needs are supplied by their own, magnificent, 528 acres of vineyard holdings.
