This wine, of great structure and concentration, is designed to reward extensive cellaring. The grapes for this wine, Sangiovese blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, come from the 1.01 hectare (2.4 acres) vineyard called S. Ercolano at 300 to 350 meters (~1,100ft) in elevation, just outside the town of Montepulciano (Siena). Maturation took place in new French and American oak barrels for over a year, before being removed to settle in stainless steel tanks. The unfiltered wine is bottled and stored in temperature controlled cellars for approx 45 months before release.
The vineyard site, St. Ercolano, was planted in 1995.
The colour is a dark, deep, blackish-ruby hue. The nose is bold and intense, with black currants, liquorice, black pepper and a hint of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied palate with exceptional black fruit intensity and spice. Big structured with well integrated, supple tannins and a long, persistent finish. Best served with roasts and grilled meats, especially “fiorentina-style” T-Bone steak.
