When Casella Wines founders Filippo and Maria Casella immigrated to Australia, they started with a dream to build a winery where their family could work and prosper together. They never could have anticipated that, from humble beginnings, Casella Wines, the home of [yellow tail], would become Australia’s greatest wine producer.
The wines are found in more than 50 countries around the world. Meanwhile, [yellow tail] is Australia’s number one wine exporter, and has become the top selling wine in Canada and the USA. And still, the Casellas stay true to their family business. Today, the day-to-day operations of the winery are run by the three Casella sons - John, Managing Director and Winemaker; Joe, Australian Sales Director; and Marcello, Director and Vineyard Operations Director.
In 1957 Casella Wines founders Filippo and Maria Casella migrate from Sicily and purchase Farm 1471, the future home of [yellow tail] wines.
By 1969 Casella Wines is born! The Casella family produce their first batch of wine in Australia, and within a short amount of time the winery starts to grow. In 1975 stainless steel tanks and a 15 tonne fermenter are installed.
At the start of the millennium, the brand is born, when Casella wines partner with a USA importer to launch [yellow tail] wines to the States. First year sales are of over a million cases.
By 2005, global sales of [yellow tail] reaches 5 million cases.
To keep up with [yellow tail]‘s rapid growth, in 2006 the winery install the fastest bottling line in the world, capable of processing 36,000 bottles per hour.
In 2011 [yellow tail] celebrates its 10th birthday and is available in over 50 countries around the world. From humble beginnings [yellow tail] has become Australia’s greatest wine exporter.
